GitHub Actions vs. Jenkins: Which CI/CD Tool Should You Learn?
CI/CD automates building, testing and deploying code every time it changes. Jenkins and GitHub Actions are two of the most common tools.
Jenkins
Self-hosted, extremely flexible, with a huge plugin ecosystem. You run and maintain the server, which is more work but gives full control. Still common in larger and older enterprises.
GitHub Actions
Built into GitHub, configured with YAML files in your repository, and no server to maintain. Fast to start, and common in startups and open source.
What to learn
Learn the concepts first: pipelines, stages, artifacts, secrets and environments. Then build one pipeline in GitHub Actions to get started quickly, and learn Jenkins basics because many job descriptions still list it.
