How to Build a DevOps Portfolio on GitHub That Gets You Interviews

18 October 20265 min read

Recruiters spend seconds on a profile. A clear portfolio shows you can build and run real systems.

Three projects worth building

  1. A three-tier web app on AWS with a VPC, load balancer, auto scaling and a managed database, defined in Terraform.
  2. A CI/CD pipeline that builds a Docker image, runs tests and deploys automatically.
  3. A monitored service with dashboards and alerts, and a short runbook for an incident.

How to present each repository

  • A README with the problem, an architecture diagram, how to deploy and the cost.
  • Infrastructure as code, not screenshots.
  • Commit history that shows steady work.
  • A short write-up of what went wrong and what you learned.

Make it easy to find

Pin your best three repositories, link them from your résumé and LinkedIn, and be ready to explain every design decision in an interview.
