How Much Do Cloud and DevOps Engineers Earn in India? (2026)
Salary numbers you find online for "cloud engineer" or "DevOps engineer" swing wildly, and most of that swing is explained by three things: certification, hands-on project experience, and the type of company hiring. Treat the ranges below as directional — actual offers vary by city, company, and negotiation — not as a quote for any specific role.
Entry-level cloud engineer
Freshers with a resume built on tutorials alone tend to land toward the lower end of the market. Freshers who pair an associate-level certification with genuinely deployed projects — not just tutorial follow-alongs — land noticeably higher and get more callbacks, because interviewers can tell the difference within two or three questions.
Entry-level DevOps engineer
DevOps roles at the entry level tend to sit slightly above generalist cloud-engineer roles, largely because fewer freshers can genuinely demonstrate CI/CD, containers, and Infrastructure as Code together. Candidates who can show Docker and Kubernetes exposure — even from personal lab projects — consistently stand out from candidates who only know the AWS console.
What actually moves you up the range
- A relevant AWS certification (SAA-C03 at minimum, DOP-C02 for DevOps-titled roles) — certifications reliably add to base offers, more so once you also have real project experience to back them up.
- Two or three projects you can talk through in detail: a three-tier app on your own infrastructure, an IaC setup you wrote yourself, a CI/CD pipeline that actually deploys something.
- Company type — Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and product companies generally pay meaningfully more than traditional IT services firms for the same title.
- Kubernetes and Docker exposure, even from lab work — this is a common gap that separates otherwise similar resumes.
The honest takeaway
A certificate alone and a certificate paired with real, explainable projects are treated very differently by interviewers — the gap between them is usually bigger than the gap between certifications. If you're optimizing for starting salary, spend at least as much time on projects as on exam prep.
Every module in our AWS Solutions Architect + DevOps Engineering Master Program pairs a concept with a hands-on lab, and the program closes with production-grade capstone projects — built specifically so you have real, explainable work to show, not just a certificate.
