How to Get Your First Cloud or DevOps Job in India as a Fresher
Cloud and DevOps roles rarely ask for a specific degree, but they do ask for proof you can build and run things. For a fresher, that proof is projects and a certification, not a long résumé.
1. Build the core skills
- Linux command line and basic shell scripting.
- Networking fundamentals: IP, DNS, HTTP, subnets and firewalls.
- One cloud platform in depth, ideally AWS: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS and CloudWatch.
- Git, a CI/CD tool, Docker, and Terraform for infrastructure as code.
2. Get one certification
AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03) is the most common filter in job descriptions. It shows recruiters you understand how the main services fit together.
3. Ship projects you can explain
Deploy a real application on AWS with a VPC, a load balancer, auto scaling, a database and a CI/CD pipeline. Put the code and an architecture diagram on GitHub, and be ready to explain every design decision.
4. Apply smartly
- Target titles like Cloud Support Engineer, Junior DevOps Engineer and Associate Cloud Engineer.
- Tailor your résumé to the job description and lead with projects.
- Write about what you build on LinkedIn; recruiters notice.
- Practise explaining your projects out loud before interviews.
